How to be your own hero?

How To Be Your Own Hero?

Since a very young age, I have been obsessed with princesses.

I have pretty much watched any and every princess movie that has ever been released, especially if it was a Disney.

And like every little girl, or at least most of them, I have always wanted to be a princess.

A princess who is saved by a prince, the one who finds her one true love. A princess who overcomes it all with her prince at her side.

See how the princess is never alone?

Yeah, that’s what I wanted to be.

I wanted never ever to be alone, never wanted to be abandoned.

I always wanted to belong.

But guess what I am not alone, and by never ever being alone I failed to create an identity of my own. Now during every adversity, I end up looking for a prince or a hero.

A hero who can swoop in and slay the dragon that threatens to burn me alive.

I struggle to be my own hero because I never learned how to be one.

And now I sit and wonder, How does one become a hero?

How does one become a hero for themselves?

How does one save themselves from the dragon that has entrapped them?

Do you make friends with the said dragon? (ref. to “Damsel”)

Or do you let it all consume you and when it’s all done with you, you rise up from the ashes?

Like a phoenix, who is born again?

All these questions remain unanswered as I continue to be on a quest to learn how to be my own hero.

With the hope of finding answers soon.
